About Swami Ji

Born on 1 January 1976 in Jasidih, in the Deoghar district of what was then Bihar and is now Jharkhand, he left home in childhood and went to live in the forest in the company of saints. Living among them, his curiosity for Vedic Sanatan Dharma deepened year by year, and he resolved to pursue Vedic education in earnest — travelling between ashrams to study the Vedas, the Puranas, the Upanishads and Yoga.

That search ended at Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya in Varanasi, where he completed his Acharya degree in Vedic education in 2002. He was then appointed secretary of Shri Shambhu Panch Agni Akhara — an order open only to brahmacharis, where celibacy is the first and greatest prerequisite — and came to be known as Mahant Shri Kailashanand Brahmachari. Bapu Gopalanand Brahmachari Ji, then president of the Akhara, took him as his disciple.

In 2006, on the instruction of Bapu Gopalanand Ji, he was entrusted with Dakshin Kali Mandir at Chandi Ghat, Haridwar — a peeth established by Mahaguru Baba Kamraj Ji and counted for centuries among the principal seats of Vedic Sanatan Dharma. It was at once an honour and a test. There he undertook the Maharudrabhishek of Lord Shiva for some fourteen hours a day through the monsoon month, observing silence throughout. Word of that austerity spread; hundreds of devotees began arriving at the temple in the rains, and his name became a subject of discussion across the country and abroad.

At the Prayagraj Mahakumbh of 2013, Agni Akhara seated him as Mahamandaleshwar — he was thirty-eight, unusually young for so senior an office in Vedic Sanatan Dharma. After the passing of Bapu Gopalanand Brahmachari Ji in 2018, a loss felt across the entire saint community, the responsibility for all his ashrams passed to him. Finally, on 14 January 2021, his Pattabhishek was performed and he became Niranjan Peethadheeshwar Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Kailashanand Giri Ji, accepted as spiritual leader by the assembled akharas and saint communities.
